[No.3642] sakaboto blade Nick Noll 2008/06/06 13:23 Japan

my question is about the reverse blade sword you have for sale. Is the reverse blade side of sword sharp, or is dull like the Iaito's? Also how strong is the durability of sword, compared to the strength of the Shinken?
[No.3642-1] Webmaster 2008/06/06 14:50
The reverse blade side of sword is not sharp.
    It is one of iaito.

Composition of our original duralumin is zinc 85% and aluminum 15% and a little magnesium is added.
This duralumin is more hard than usual material of Iaito.
All iaitos on our web page is made of the duralumin.
So it is not easy to bend it or to break it.
*The Brinell hardness is about 80HB - 90HB.
The duralumin is not hard like forged carbon steel of Shinken.
[No.3642-2] re: sakaboto Nick 2008/06/08 9:44:
so does that mean the "hamon" is the only thing reversed about it? And both sides are dull?

[No.3642-4] Webmaster 2008/06/09 13:52
    Yes, both sides are dull.
    You can not cut anything.
The "hamon" is on the other side compared to nomal iaito.
[No.3642-5] Sakaboto's & iaito's Nick Noll 2008/06/15 15:26
thank you for answering my questions, but i have one final question. Is there a way to order the sakaboto and the iaito with a sharpend edge, or are the swords made not to be sharpend ( such as, i could'nt sharpen it myself). Once again i thank you for you prompt answer's, and i look forward to owning one of your fine crafted shinken.

I truly want one of your "Shinken" but my funds are low for the time being. So i am intrested in your "sakabato's & Iaito's". You only have one "sakabato", so thats the one i am intrested in. And the "iaito" im intrested in is the (No.yk004)-the Izumimori Kanesada blade. Thank you for taking your time answering my questions, and if for any reason you dont have my e-mail its (nollnick@live.com). I will be awaiting your direct e-mail,

[No.3659] Some questions: Trond 2008/06/15 9:51: Japan

    Hi.

I'm wondering if the Iato can be used by people under 18 in most countries.

Also wodering if you're shipping to Norway? And what could the additional costs be?

Please don't leave pointless comments or questions here, it pushes useful information away from the frontpage and makes it more frustrating to find an earlier on a question you might have.
[No.3659-1] Webmaster 2008/06/17 15:41
    Hi, Trond-san.

Iaito is used by the people playing Iaido,
practicing for Tameshigiri and competition of Iaido.
So it isn't be limited their ages.

We have shipped to Norway many times with no additional cost.

    Thenk you.

[No.3632] laito marcus 2008/06/03 20:22 Japan

what does "laito" mean when you are refering to the ready made and custom swords? are they the katanas that can only be used as decoration or they may break?
[No.3632-1] Webmaster 2008/06/04 11:19
There are 4 types of Katana (Japanese sword).

    1. Shinken Katana for "Tameshigiri"
It is used by Iaido "Tamishigiri" practice or competition.
"Tameshigiri" is trying to cut something by Shinken.

    2. Shinken Katana made current generation for Art and decoration
It is not used for "Tameshigiri" (trying to cut somting).
So usually the blade is sharpened for special highest level sharpness.
Because blade sharpened for special high level sharpness is beautiful.
Of course it can be used for cut someting.

    3. Antique Shinken Katana for Art and decoration.
It was made at olden time.
Some Antique Shinken is of great value.
    Some are national treasure.

    4. Iaito Katana for practice of Iaido or martial arts
Always this Iaito is called "Iaito".
The blade is not sharp. You can not cut anything by Iaito. Material of the blade is different from Shinken blade.
But the blade shape or hamon design is similar to Shinken. It is beautiful.
And the weight and Koshirae(saya, tsuba, tsuka and the other part) is same with one of Shinken.

The ready made and custom made swords are Iaito Katana(4).
We sell shinken swords as well.
